The education programme starts on November 12 with our Animation & Sound Design Workshop, curated by animator Jonathan Charles, and sound engineer Daniel Padden. This dual workshop will split the attending pupils in two groups, enabling them to create their short animation using traditional and modern animation methods, and then dress it with sounds, music and voice overs to create a fully rounded project. The event will take place at the Grosvenor Picture Theatre, with attendees from Royston Primary, John Paul Academy, Notre Dame and the Parkview Primaries.
The animation workshop will be enhanced with a screening of selected animation projects which include Spring Waltz by Stefano Lorenzi & Clelia Catalano (Italy), Distance to the Moon by Victoria Watson & Sacha Kyle (UK), Josephine by Antonia Bain (UK), Stone in Stomach by Géraldine Charpentier (Belgium), Fairground Fever by Linda Hughes (UK) and It All Comes Down by Meg Earls (Ireland, UK).
On November 13, pupils from the Govan Gaelic School and the Parkview Primary will attend a writing workshop with IFFG veteran and BAFTA Scotland nominated filmmaker, writer, and poet Leyla Josephine Coll-O’Reilly, and a masterclass with Scotland’s first publicly open LGBTQIA+ football player Zander Murray, accompanied by a screening of his BBC backed short documentary. Both events will take place at our education partner venue The Social Hub. Simultaneously, a screening of Animation feature film LUDA by Vick Wang (Taiwan) will take place at the Grosvenor Picture Theatre with pupils from the Hillhead Primary.
On November 14, VFX specialist Cal MacDonald will host two groups of pupils from Castlemilk High School and Parkview Primary for an interactive special effects workshop at the Grosvenor Picture Theatre. The students will experience make up and prosthetics used in film and TV shows, and work together with Cal to recreate moments from his extensive career which includes titles like Outlander, The Rig, Zebra Girl and many more.
